Conway
Conway is the eighth most populous city in Arkansas and the county seat of Faulkner County.
Conway is known as the “City of Colleges”, as it’s home to three post-secondary educational institutions.
The city’s proximity to the state capital, Little Rock, adds to its appeal as a residential and commercial hub in Arkansas.
Brief History of Conway
Originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Quapaw and Osage, the area eventually became a site for European settlement.
Incorporated in 1875, Conway grew steadily as a centre for trade and agriculture, benefiting from its location along the Arkansas River. The arrival of the railroad in the late 19th century further spurred growth, facilitating the transportation of goods and people to and from the area.
The city’s educational legacy began with the founding of Hendrix College in 1876, followed by the establishment of Central Baptist College and the Arkansas State Normal School (now known as the University of Central Arkansas) in the early 20th century.
Throughout the 20th century, Conway experienced periods of economic expansion and diversification, with industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, and technology contributing to its growth.
Today, Conway continues to thrive as a vibrant community with a strong economy, renowned educational institutions, and a rich cultural heritage.
