La Magdalena, Jaén is known as Church of Santa María Magdalen, its one of the oldest buildings in Jaé, The church was built on the foundations of a mosque that had been erected in 825 by Abderraman II and redesigned by Andrés de Vandelvira. The entrance to the church is decorated in stunning Elizabethan Gothic style and still has some features that the old mosque used to have such as The pool in the cloister that was used by Muslim worshipers prior to entering the building.
The main altar and in the Ambon which shows the remains of the Muslim origin, there is a lapidary stone with an inscription in Latin. In 1966 the church underwent a restoration and reconstruction by Architect D. Luis Berges Roldánthe, the restoration finished in 1983.

How to get there
- By Train: the nearest train station is the Jaen Station, which is around 1.6 km away, it will take you around 30 minutes to walk from the train station to the church.
- By Foot: situated only 5 minutes from Parroquia de San Juan and 4 minutes from Teatro Infanta Leonor.
