Editorial Policy
Isolated Traveller aims to be a reliable, independent reference for travellers. This Editorial Policy sets out the principles behind our work.
Independence
Our editorial decisions are independent of advertisers, affiliates, sponsors, and third-party commercial relationships. No advertiser or partner has any influence over which destinations, countries, landmarks, or topics we cover, nor over the conclusions we reach.
Sources and accuracy
Country, city, landmark, and flag profiles draw on publicly available data from official sources — government statistical agencies, intergovernmental organisations (UN, World Bank, OECD), national tourism boards, and reputable academic or journalistic publications. Where figures vary between sources, we prefer the most recent official source and, where appropriate, indicate the date of the data.
We aim for accuracy but are not infallible. If you spot an error, please use the contact page to let us know — we welcome corrections.
Inclusion criteria
Our destination coverage prioritises sovereign states recognised by the United Nations, plus major dependent territories. Cities and landmarks are selected on the basis of historical, cultural, or travel significance — not paid placement.
Tone and voice
We write for adult readers planning real trips. We aim to be precise rather than promotional, factual rather than sensational, and honest about complications (visa issues, safety considerations, contested histories) rather than glossing them over.
Corrections and updates
When we update a page with significantly new information, we note the date of the update at the bottom of the article. Substantive factual corrections are noted explicitly.
Diversity and contested topics
We try to represent the world as it is. Where topics are politically contested (disputed borders, the recognition of states, contested capitals, opposition flags) we acknowledge the dispute and present the relevant facts rather than adopting a partisan position.
