Avondale is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, adjacent to Phoenix.
According to the 2019 U.S. Census estimates, the population of the city is 87,931.
Avondale, incorporated in 1946, has experienced rapid residential and commercial growth in the years since 1980.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 41.3 square miles (107 km2), of which 41.3 square miles (107 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) (0.15%) is water.
In 1880, William “Billy” G. Moore established a settlement along the Agua Fria River and named it Coldwater.
In the early 1900s, the Coldwater post office moved to a site near Avondale Ranch. The post office soon became known as Avondale, and the name Coldwater was discontinued.
Avondale first appeared on the 1920 U.S. Census as the 45th Precinct of Maricopa County (AKA Coldwater)
In 1946 Avondale was incorporated as a city.
The city is served by the Universal Technical Institute and Estrella Mountain Community College.
