Coat of arms of Aalborg
The city’s coat of arms was officially registered in 1938. Aalborg draws its inspiration from the ancient city seal, which has been documented since 1358 but is believed to originate from around 1300.
The specific building depicted in the seal remains unidentified, while the moon and crescent motifs possibly symbolize St. Mary. The waves at the base of the coat of arms may be indicative of its connection to the city’s maritime identity.
Since 1999, the city has adopted a logo that is derived from its traditional coat of arms.
