Montana is the fourth-biggest state by physical size and has the eighth smallest population. Montana is divided into 56 counties and contains 129 incorporated municipalities, which consist of cities and towns. Anaconda and Butte are the only two Consolidated City-County in Montana.
Butte is the county seat of Silver Bow County, in southwestern Montana, it was established as a mining camp in the 1860s in the northern Rocky Mountains straddling the Continental Divide. Butte has an approximate population of 34,494, making it the fifth-largest city in Montana, measuring at around 716.82 square miles. The city was named for a nearby landform, Big Butte, by the early miners.
Anaconda is the county seat of Deer Lodge County, which has a consolidated city-county government, Anaconda is situated at the foot of the Anaconda Range, known as the “Pintlers”. Anaconda has an approximate population of 9,421, measuring around 741.2 square miles. Anaconda was founded by Marcus Daly.
